Suicide Haunts
This story is tragic Teen Finds Father in two ways. It was so difficult for the 46 year old man to find his father dead in the freezer, that he took his own life, and his 15 year old son found him.
The instantaneous reaction to a suicide of a loved one is to die also because grief overwhelms us and we don’t want to go on without them.
However, we also have many reasons to live, especially when we have children depending on us.
The teenager will now face many hurdles. He will have to choose to continue to live, without his father and perhaps limited family support. He will then have to live with the memory of finding his own father and his grandfather’s death, both from suicide. They both chose to leave him alone.
This will impact his self esteem for many years to come if he chooses to live, and entering a room similar to where he found his father will bring this memory back, without consent, until he can reconcile this in his own mind.
How do I know this?
I found my own mother’s body when I was 8 years old and for years and years I could not turn a light on in a room for fear of what I would find there.
This boy will need all the help and support he can get from the community and not be treated like a leper or a carrier of the suicide disease because it seems to run in his family.
I hope he finds it.
