how to adjust my college life(depression-suicide)?

October 7, 2008

I was a very active and bright person when i was in high school.i was in a student government and maintained above 3.7GPA.. and now it's been a four years(i should have been graduating this year just like my friends.) that i've been in a college. and I'M failing…i'm in a academic probation ever since i'm in a school. i'm depressed all the time, i don't have any friends(all of my friends moved to L.A, i'm the one left in sacramento b/c of financial problem). I really don't want to go to school. recently i've been denied from my major because my 'academic deficiency'.. I became a really quiet person and very depressed. i've tried to commit a suicide many times but failed… what should I do? i tried take a semester off and just work, but i do want to graduate(but how? with bad gpa?)
i drink alot and sleep. that's how i spend my weekend. i have tried to get a counseling but all i do is just cry..
WHAT DO I DO? i have no desire to live.. i need help!

!NO!!!! Don't do it! You will acheive happiness I promise, everyone gets on a downer at sometime in their lives and one small change could be all you need to get back on top again.
Why don't you join a social club at school? Something you have always been interested in doing but have never been confident enough to try….that way you could meet new people and learn some new and happy things about yourself.
PLEASE try and get some help, remember if you do kill yourself you have robbed yourself of what could be a beautiful life.
Can you travel? Come to Australia, go to the UK.
Take a summer off and work at a Summer Camp in an area you have never been to before, belive me it will be worth taking a risk to get out of the slump you're in.
Email me if you feel the need to talk

yes, i think you do need help. does your college have a student health centre? if not, please make an appointment with your GP to discuss these feelings. it's understandable to feel depressed when you are feeling so alone. please don't try and solve your problems by yourself…there can be a variety of factors working on your feelings…you mention that you have been using alcohol and alcohol is a depressant. that's a chemical reality, so the use of alcohol will just exacerbate any feelings of loneliness and sadness…if you feel uncomfortable going to the doctor, ring a depression help line and just talk things out…it really helps to just talk about things with someone who can and will listen…

I think you need to consult someone like your adviser or the medical unit there for practical advice. I understand your situation which seems to depress you but you need to learn to relax, go out for physical exercises, chat with some good friends, etc. I passed some difficulties on my mind in my college years and learned not to think or worry about it all the time.
If you still fell depressive, please consult a good medical doctor specialized in depressive disorders (NOT a psychiatrist) for advice and medication. Doctors tell me and try to inform the public this depression is normal for people when the time comes, don't despair since many depressive patients still visit/consult their doctors normally like those with heart diseases, diabetes, high blood pressure, etc.
    Take care.
