Suicide as Domestic Violence
Murder Suicides are usuall involved with money or love, or more appropriately, domestic violence and love. It’s a twisted state affairs from what we would accept as ‘normal’ but is indicative of the cycle.
Domestic Violence is a control thing. To be generalist, the man dominates and manipulates the woman by either the threat of or actual physical violence. It can also be emotional abuse over a long period of time which gradually wears away at the core of the woman’s self esteem until she believes that she is nothing without the man and that he is completely wrong and that she is the worst person to walk the earth and lucky to have him.
This works until the woman awakens one day to find herself in this terrible situation and then the journey begins to free herself.
Now, what can happen here are two things. The man, unable to cope alone decides that he cannot go on and she does not deserve to either. He kills her and then himself. If children are involved it will be likely that he will kill them as well. As the ultimate form of punishment, men have killed the children and then themselves so the woman has to live with the betrayal forever.
What has happened here Triplets Orphaned is one of the saddest cases I’ve come across.
This brave mother had decided to finally leave and the man shot her and then himself. Unfortunately she didn’t die straight away, leaving the triplets in anguish. The man also died.
When a woman comes to you and says that her husband/partner is going to kill himself or she fears for her life - SHE MEANS IT. Please don’t ignore this any longer. Take notice.
It takes an enormous amount of courage for the woman to admit where she is and then seek help. Even though the abuser has been terrible to her, she still loves him. It’s a cycle that you cannot understand unless you’ve been there. Just accept it.
Please let’s take a bit more care of our neighbours when they need us.
